I love your voice and your range. How old were you when you realized you had musical talent? How did you improve your voice?
-A young fan
I started singing and writing and making things up when I was 6 or so. My mom was encouraging of it, so I was introduced to a wonderful Russian piano teacher, who has now passed. At the time she was already quite elderly, but she had an amazing spirit and ability to get the fire in your belly going in no time - by the fire I mean inspiration and desire to create. I always sang but it was not until 15-16 or so that I realized I could really sing quite well. It was only in college that I discovered that I could sing opera, too. These days there are lots of options for improving your voice, but there is nothing better than a few lessons with a very good teacher. Also, now you have the option of videotaping your lesson, so you can re-use it time and time again. It's possible to learn from YouTube and the Internet, but you may end up not really knowing what your 'own' voice is like - so it's important to get an opportunity to study with someone who can help.
